Workplaces
Work trips are a major contributor to peak hour traffic congestion, therefore it is important for organisations to promote and encourage the use of sustainable modes of transport for journeys to and from a workplace to reduce single occupancy vehicle trips.
TravelSmart Workplaces develop travel plans outlining how they will increase sustainable transport use, and help reduce traffic congestion in Queensland. Any workplace interested in reducing congestion, and encouraging more sustainable travel can become involved.
Events
Organised community events give people the opportunity to try sustainable transport options in a safe and supportive atmosphere. These events provide a positive experience for participants through direct encouragement and promotion. Giving people information and advice about the infrastructure in their area will also support voluntary behaviour change.
TravelSmart strongly supports and promotes community events such as Bike Week, Ride to School Day, Walk to Work Day and National Ride to Work Day. These events provide a great opportunity for the community to get involved in, and learn more about, sustainable transport. These events are scheduled throughout the year and provide opportunities for individuals to try exciting new travel options.

TravelSmart Workplaces and Events is part of a range of initiatives within Queensland's revised climate change strategy, ClimateQ: toward a greener Queensland. The initiative will assist Queensland households to meet the Toward Q2 target of reducing private household transport emissions by one-third by 2020.
