TravelSmart Communities
TravelSmart Communities projects work directly with households to increase the use of sustainable modes of transport across the whole community.
Over the next few years, TravelSmart will be working on three communities projects with households throughout south east Queensland to encourage the use of more sustainable transport options.
TravelSmart Communities process
Households in the targeted area are contacted by TravelSmart and are invited to participate. We ask them to nominate which sustainable modes of transport they are interested in and offer a range of products and services based on their response and the infrastructure unique to their community.
Some of the products and services include:
- access maps for their local area, showing local buses, trains or ferries, as well as cycle and walking routes for either recreation or commuter purposes
- bus and train timetables
- backpacks
- pedometers.
So far, all of the communities projects we have undertaken have greatly increased the amount of sustainable travel undertaken by participants. Participants have also commented on how helpful they have found the project in getting to know their local area better.
